According to a team of United Nations (UN) delegates, during the Hamas’‍ October 7th attack on Israel, there were “reasonable grounds to believe” that the terrorist group committed sexual⁢ violence, including rape and gang-rape.

The report also ⁣claims to have discovered solid evidence supporting the assertion that sexual assault against Israeli hostages in Gaza has occurred and may still be occurring.

The delegation, headed by UN ⁢special envoy Pramila Patten for sexual violence in conflict, traveled to Israel from⁤ January‍ 29th to February 14th with the goal of compiling, examining, and confirming data on sexual assault related to October 7th.

“Credible circumstantial information, which may⁤ be indicative of some forms of sexual ‍violence, including genital mutilation, sexualized torture, or cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment, was also gathered,” the 24-page UN report states.

On October 7, thousands of ⁢Hamas terrorists invaded Israel, killing at least 1,200 people and taking 253 hostages, most of whom ‍were civilians and many of whom were subjected to horrifying acts of violence.

“The mission team found clear and convincing information that some hostages taken ⁣to Gaza have been subjected to various forms of conflict-related sexual violence and has reasonable grounds to believe ⁣that‌ such violence ⁤may be ongoing,” the UN report says.

According to the report, a‌ “fully-fledged investigation” will be necessary to determine the precise attribution, extent, and total size of the instances of sexual violence.

Following October 7th, the UN team⁣ claims ‌to have also received evidence regarding⁤ “sexual violence against Palestinian men and women in [Israeli] detention settings, during house raids, and at checkpoints” from institutional and civil society sources in addition to direct interviews.

They continued, claiming that ⁤after bringing up⁢ the accusations with Israel’s Ministry of Justice and Military ⁣Advocate General, the ⁢UN group was purportedly informed that there had been no reports of sexual assault⁢ against Israeli Defense Force (IDF) personnel.

Ted cases of sexual violence‌ by Israeli forces during‌ the mentioned time period.

The UN delegation further emphasized the need for ⁣accountability and for perpetrators of sexual violence to be brought to justice. They ⁢called ⁢for thorough investigations to be conducted by both Israeli and Palestinian authorities to ⁤ensure that all instances of sexual violence are properly documented and addressed. The report also highlighted the importance ⁤of providing support and⁤ assistance to survivors of sexual violence, including medical,⁣ psychological, and legal services.

The findings of this report have raised serious concerns within the ⁤international community, with many calling for immediate‍ action to address the issue. Various human rights organizations and governments have condemned the‍ use of sexual violence as ‌a weapon of war and have urged both Israel and Hamas to take responsibility for ⁤protecting the rights and well-being of individuals within their territories.

It‍ is worth noting that this is not the first time that allegations of sexual violence have been made against Hamas or Israeli forces.‍ Previous reports have also documented cases of sexual violence committed by both sides during periods of conflict. However, what makes this report particularly significant is the detailed and comprehensive nature‍ of the evidence presented.

Sexual violence in conflict is a grave violation of human rights and is listed‍ as a war crime under international law.‌ It ⁣causes immense physical ⁣and psychological harm to the victims and creates a climate of fear and insecurity within communities. The international community has a responsibility to respond to such violations‌ and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

As the report recommends, it is essential ⁤that an independent and impartial investigation be ⁣conducted to ascertain the full extent of sexual violence committed during the October 7th attack and to bring the perpetrators to justice. The findings should be used ‌to inform policies and practices aimed at‍ preventing sexual violence in conflict and providing support to survivors.

In the face of these disturbing‍ allegations, it is crucial that‍ the international‌ community remains⁣ committed⁢ to upholding ‌the principles of ⁢human rights, justice, and accountability. The victims of sexual violence deserve justice and support,⁢ and it‌ is ⁢the responsibility of all nations to work together⁢ to ensure that such‍ crimes are‍ prevented and that the rights and dignity of all individuals are protected.
