In a tragic turn of events, the U.S. Military announced on Sunday afternoon that two Navy SEALs, who had been missing for nearly two weeks, are now presumed dead. The SEALs were engaged in a daring nighttime interdiction mission on January 11, off the coast of Africa.

Japan and Spain joined forces with the U.S. in an extensive search effort, covering over 21,000 square miles. The Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center, the U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Area Command, University of San Diego – Scripts Institute of Oceanography, and the Office of Naval Research – Oceanographic Support provided additional support.
Expressing his condolences, General Michale Erik Kurilla, CENTCOM Commander, stated, “We mourn the loss of our two Naval Special Warfare warriors, and we will forever honor their sacrifice and example.
