Two golfers, one being a Masters champion, may pull out of the tournament if their wives go into labor

Two professional golfers, including Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, have pledged to withdraw‌ from the tournament if their wives go into labor. Both expectant couples are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their first child, with due‍ dates‍ approaching within the next few weeks. ‌Their participation at Augusta National hangs in the balance, setting the stage for a memorable and emotional tournament.

Two professional golfers, including Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, have vowed to withdraw from the annual tournament if their wives go into labor.

With both their wives not only expecting, but due in 1-3 weeks, Sam Burns and Scheffler’s participation in Augusta National could be affected, the Golf Channel reported.

The 2022 Masters champion Scheffler and his wife Meredith are expecting their first child, with Meredith due by the end of the month. The couple tied the knot in 2020 and he is at Augusta to try and score his second victory in the annual golf tournament.

“It’s going to be pretty wild,” Golf Digest reported. “I don’t think it’s hit either of us quite yet but it’s an exciting time for us as a family.”

“It’s been a pretty exciting last seven months or so and we’re looking forward to hopefully getting the baby out of there nice and healthy and with a healthy momma, and then we’ll go from there,” he added.

Burns — who’s trying to score his first major win at the PGA tournament — and his wife Caroline are also expecting, with their first child due in the coming days and the first round of the 2024 Masters ready to kick off on Thursday, the New York Post reported.

Sam and Caroline tied the knot in 2019 and have known each other since childhood, People magazine noted.

“I couldn’t imagine doing life without you. Here’s to many more memories together with the most beautiful person I know inside and out. I love you, Caroline Burns!” Burns wrote as he gushed about his wife in an Instagram post in December 2021.

The two professionals are not the first to be dealing with expectant wives at the tournament, Golf Digest noted. In the final round of the Masters in 1999, it was Phil Mickelson’s turn when he was spotted carrying a beeper around Pinehurst in case his wife Amy went into labor.

Mickelson ended up getting second place behind Payne Stewart, with Amy giving birth the very next day, the outlet noted.

During a recent press conference, Scheffler was asked what defines him and he replied, “Golf’s something that I do … but it doesn’t define me as a person.”

I’m a faithful guy, I believe in a Creator, I believe in Jesus,” he added. “Ultimately I think that’s what defines me most.”
