Elon Musk’s ‘X’ rebrand of Twitter logo faced issues for hours post-launch.
Twitter Rebrands to x.com: A Transformation with a Few Hiccups
In an exciting move, Twitter underwent a rebranding on Monday, now known as x.com. However, this transformation didn’t come without its fair share of challenges.
During the early morning hours, x.com failed to redirect to Twitter and instead displayed a vacant web address. Users were surprised to find themselves on a GoDaddy landing page for websites, rather than the familiar Twitter interface. Despite the logo changing to a sleek black “X” from the iconic blue Twitter bird at midnight, the redirection glitch caused some confusion.
Fortunately, by 8 a.m. EDT, x.com successfully redirected to Twitter with its new logo. However, aside from the updated imagery, the platform itself remains unchanged.
Elon Musk’s Announcement and the Midnight Celebration
The rebranding was first announced by Twitter owner Elon Musk in a tweet on Sunday. He shared a video showcasing the new logo and expressed that the platform would bid farewell to the Twitter brand. Musk even hinted at bidding adieu to the birds gradually.
To mark the momentous occasion, the new “X” logo was projected onto Twitter’s offices in San Francisco, California, at midnight. It was a visual celebration of the brand’s fresh identity.
Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino also chimed in, emphasizing that the rebranded social media platform would go beyond its previous achievements in “transforming the global town square.” She acknowledged the rarity of getting a second chance to make a significant impact and expressed excitement about x.com’s potential.
“It’s an exceptionally rare thing — in life or in business — that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square,” Yaccarino tweeted.
With this rebranding, x.com aims to take its place as a leading force in the ever-evolving world of social media.
