Twitter Appears To ‘Shadow Ban’ Daily Wire Star Gina Carano

According to various reports, including numerous Twitter users, Gina Carano is being “shadow banned” on Twitter.

According to MMA Mania, an SB Nation blog, “Twitter has locked her account behind a ‘sensitive content’ filter that seriously impacts her reach and visibility.”

“Shadow banning” is the complete or partial blocking of a user or their posts on an online platform like Twitter, with the intention of making it appear to others that they have not been banned. A simple example of “shadow banning” would be one post being hidden from all users except for the one person who originally posted it.

After initial investigations by The Daily Wire, it appears that the rumors might be true. While logged in on Twitter, Gina Carano’s profile doesn’t appear when “Gina Carano” is entered into the search bar, despite being a verified account with almost one million followers. To find her profile, users have to click on the “People” tab.

Furthermore, it appears that Gina Carano is being “shadow banned” when it comes to accessing profiles without logging in to Twitter. When trying to access Gina Carano’s account without first having logged in, users seem to be presented with an empty profile.

Carano’s name and Twitter handle are visible, but her profile picture and banner picture are hidden, with her feed replaced by a “caution” warning that the profile “may include potentially sensitive content.”

“Caution: This profile may include potentially sensitive content. You’re seeing this warning because they Tweet potentially sensitive images or language. Do you still want to view it?”

Users can only access Gina Carano’s full Twitter feed if they click “Yes, view profile.”

In addition, according to website shadowban.eu, Gina Carano’s Twitter account may have fallen victim to a “Search Suggestion Ban.”

“This type of ban causes an account to not populate search suggestions and people search results when it is searched for while being logged out,” the website explains. “Twitter seems to take tie strength or a similar metric into account. While an account may be suggested to users you are strongly tied to, it may not be shown to others.”

According to Twitter, in a 2018 piece titled “Setting the record straight on shadow banning,” the social media giant claimed it does not “shadow ban” users.

“We do not shadow ban. You are always able to see the tweets from accounts you follow (although you may have to do more work to find them, like go directly to their profile). And we certainly don’t shadow ban based on political viewpoints or ideology,” the post argued.

“We do rank tweets and search results,” they admitted. “We do this because Twitter is most useful when it’s immediately relevant. These ranking models take many signals into consideration to best organize tweets for timely relevance. We must also address bad-faith actors who intend to manipulate or detract from healthy conversation.”

In February, Gina Carano was publicly fired by Disney “after she tweeted something that critics claimed was controversial by saying that she was stunned to learn of the outrage online and that people were claiming that what she posted was anti-Semitic.”

“I was in utter shock and confusion when certain people said it was anti-Semitic,” Carano told Bari Weiss. “Then, as I went to take it down, I noticed that the image was not the same as the one people were referencing. I was honestly confused: should I take it down, or leave it up? I still don’t know the answer to that question, because taking it down only makes the mob attack you more.”

Days later, The Daily Wire announced that it would be partnering with Carano to produce an upcoming film exclusively for Daily Wire members.
