Trump: ‘Treasonous’ for Dems to claim US ‘not winning’ Iran war

President donald Trump saeid on Friday that Democrats calling the U.S. “not winning” against Iran were “treasonous,” arguing that U.S. forces have largely eliminated Iran’s navy and air force. He made the comments at The Villages in Florida while citing the success of U.S. military operations.

Trump also said he was dissatisfied with Iran’s latest peace offer and suggested it was unclear who in Iran is running negotiations or capable of making deals. Even with his criticism, he informed Congress that hostilities with Iran have “terminated,” noting there has been no exchange of fire since April 7, 2026. That declaration came as the War Powers Resolution’s 60-day period-counted from his March 2 notice to Congress-neared its end.

President Donald Trump said on Friday it was “treasonous” of Democrats to say the United States is not winning the war with Iran.

Trump made the remark during an event at The Villages, a large community in Florida made up of retirees, while talking about the success the U.S. military has had in destroying Iran’s military.

“Think of it. Their navy’s gone. Their air force is gone. Their whole place is gone,” Trump said. “And then we get people who say that we’re not winning. We get the radical Left to say we’re not winning.”

“It’s unbelievable,” the president continued. “It’s actually, I believe, it’s treasonous, OK? You want to know the truth, it’s treasonous.”

Before departing for Florida, Trump told the press at the White House he was unsatisfied with the latest peace offer made by Iran. The president also argued that Iran’s negotiators are disorganized, and it remains unclear who is running the country or who is able to make deals with Washington.

Despite the displeasure with Iran and its negotiators, Trump notified Congress on Friday that “hostilities” with the country have “terminated.” The declaration was made in a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

“There has been no exchange of fire between the United States Forces and Iran since April 7, 2026,” Trump wrote. “The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026 have terminated.”

The War Powers Resolution of 1973 gives the president a 60-day grace period to conclude any war started without congressional approval. Friday was the 60-day mark since Trump first notified Congress of hostilities with Iran on March 2.
