Officials from the Trump administration, the New York City Fire Department, and the Washington, D.C., fire department will also be in attendance, a White House official told the Washington Examiner.

“President Trump will pay tribute to the American heroes we lost in the tragic September 11th attacks, their beautiful family members, and to the acts of heroism that defined that fateful day when the unbreakable spirit of the American people prevailed,” White House assistant press secretary Olivia Wales said. “The President will stand with first responders to renew our sacred vow that we will never forget — and that the United States of America will always defend our proud, free nation with unyielding resolve.”

The stop is part of the Tunnel to Towers “Steel Across America” tour, which has carried the World Trade Center artifact more than 10,500 miles across the country in the months leading up to the anniversary. The tour launched in New York in May and includes more than 35 stops across 21 states and Washington.

The White House event falls three days before the anniversary, as on Sept. 11, Trump will attend a ceremony at the Pentagon, Vice President JD Vance will travel to New York City for the Ground Zero commemoration, and other administration officials will attend ceremonies in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, representing the three sites where hijacked planes crashed on 9/11.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was established in honor of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who was killed while responding to the attacks. Siller ran through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel carrying roughly 60 pounds of gear after learning the tunnel was closed to vehicles, making his way to the World Trade Center. His brother, Frank Siller, now leads the organization.

The Sept. 11 attacks killed 2,977 people, and even more have died from health-related illnesses in the decades since, according to federally established health programs.
