Trump criticizes GOP candidate Will Hurd for saying he’s running to avoid prison.
Former President Donald Trump Fires Back at Will Hurd’s Accusation
Former President Donald Trump didn’t hold back in his response to former Rep. Will Hurd of Texas, who claimed that Trump is only running for president to avoid going to prison. Hurd, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, made the accusation during a recent event in Iowa.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform to express his thoughts on the matter. He called Hurd a ”little known, failed former Congressman” and criticized his performance in Congress. Trump also mentioned that Hurd was booed off the stage when he made the accusation.
“Anyway, he got SERIOUSLY booed off the stage when he said I was running ‘to stay out of jail.’ Wrong, if I wasn’t running, or running and doing badly (like him & Christie!), with no chance to win, these prosecutions would never have been brought or happened!”
Hurd, who previously announced that he would not seek another term in Congress, stood by his statement and emphasized the need for GOP presidential contenders to challenge Trump.
“Real leadership is standing up and fighting for what’s right for America. It’s not tiptoeing around Donald Trump. Anyone who idly sits back and doesn’t call him out is only enabling him.”
- Will Hurd
During the event, Hurd stated that Trump is running for president to avoid going to prison, which was met with boos from the crowd. Trump’s response was swift and direct, dismissing the accusations as politically motivated.
Trump wasn’t the only target of criticism at the event. Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson also took a jab at him, highlighting the pending criminal cases against Trump and calling for a new direction for the GOP.
Trump responded to Hutchinson’s comments on his Truth Social platform, questioning Hutchinson’s credibility and accusing him of playing into the hands of Marxists.
Despite the controversy, Trump remains confident in his leadership and popularity among Republicans.
