One day after casting the 2026 midterm elections as “one of the most important elections of your lives,” President Donald Trump dismissed on Thursday concerns that a Democratic victory would undercut the last two years of his presidency.
During an interview with Fox News’s Laura Ingraham, Trump was asked if the 2026 elections were important because his “whole legacy is on the line.”
“When you say my legacy, I’ll be a block,” said Trump. “I’ll end up being a blocker. I’ll block all their bad stuff for two years. It won’t be the same, but I’ll be a blocker, what I can tell you.”
“I’ll probably be able to make deals with them, you know, they’re going to want some stuff, and you’ll make deals, it’s one of those things,” said Trump. “It’s not as dire, maybe it is as dire.”
When pressed, Trump admitted it was likely that Democrats would impeach him or members of his administration if they took control of Congress.
The comments came one day after Trump gave the keynote address at the GOP’s midterm convention. Speaking to the crowd in Dallas, Texas, Trump said keeping Republican control of Congress was vital this November.
“We have to have Congress. We have to have the majorities,” Trump said. “If we don’t have the majorities, so much can be lost.”
