Trump says heat on July 4 won’t deter ‘really long’ National Mall speech

president Donald Trump assured that the intense heat forecasted for July Fourth, with temperatures around 107°F, won’t interfere with his Independence Day speech at the National Mall. He joked about delivering a lengthy speech despite the hot weather during the opening of Theodore Roosevelt’s new presidential library in North Dakota. The celebrations in washington, D.C., will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, with a series of events starting early in the day and culminating in a speech at 9:45 p.m. and a record-breaking fireworks display at 10:30 p.m. Trump highlighted planned flyovers, airshows, and the largest fireworks show in history to mark the occasion. Attendance will require security screening, and certain items like coolers and chairs are prohibited. Weather forecasters predict persistent heat and humidity through the weekend, with some variability due to thunderstorms and cloud cover.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that triple-digit temperatures won’t shorten his Independence Day address on the National Mall, joking that he will deliver a “really long” speech.

“By the way, on July Fourth, it’s going to be approximately 107 degrees out, and I’m going to go, and I’m going to make a really long speech just to show that I can do anything,” Trump said, speaking during ceremonies for the opening of Theodore Roosevelt’s new presidential library in North Dakota.

The nation’s capital is preparing for a full day of celebrations Saturday, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. At the same time, Washington is expecting temperatures to reach near 101 degrees on July 4, according to the National Weather Service. Heat warnings have also been issued on Thursday and Friday leading into the holiday weekend.

The president is slated to speak at 9:45 p.m., followed by what has been billed as a record-breaking fireworks show at 10:30 p.m.

“There will be incredible Flyovers and Airshows featuring our Top Military Pilots and Equipment, and I will deliver keynote remarks that you will not want to miss,” Trump posted on Truth Social last month. “To conclude the program, and commemorate this Historic Occasion, I will be launching, what will be, the LARGEST FIREWORKS SHOW IN HISTORY, right here in our Nation’s Capital. Do not miss it.”

Guest entry for the celebrations opens at 1 p.m., and all visitors will be required to enter through TSA-like security screenings. Only clear bags and small clutches will be allowed through security. Coolers and folding chairs are prohibited.

“It looks as though the heat and humidity will likely hold on through the weekend as well,” the NWS said on Wednesday. “However, forecast confidence in the exact high temperatures starts to decrease a bit, as both remnant cloud cover from thunderstorms on previous days and thunderstorms from the day of could impact temperatures.”
