Trump claims abortion activists became radicalized due to his court victories.

Trump Takes Credit for Overturning Roe v. Wade

“I also made them the radicals,” he said. “They are able and willing to kill babies in the ninth month. … That’s radical.”

Former President Donald Trump celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade during a town hall in Iowa on Thursday. He took credit for the decision and claimed that he had put the anti-abortion movement in a strong position.

Pro-Life vs. Radical

Trump argued that being pro-life isn’t radical, but killing a baby in the seventh, eighth, or ninth month, or even after birth, is. However, his comments about killing babies are scientifically inaccurate. Unborn children are called fetuses after the embryo stage and before birth, according to Medline Plus.

Trump also emphasized the importance of exemptions from bans in the interest of political viability. “You know, I happen to be of the Ronald Reagan school in terms of exemptions where you have the life of the mother, rape, and incest,” he said.

Trump Responds to Critics

Trump responded to critics who claim they have done more on abortion than him. “Only stupid people would say that because everyone said there was no way that Roe v. Wade was going to disappear,” he added.

The Supreme Court overturned Roe with the ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization in June 2022, returning jurisdiction over abortion laws to the states. Three of the six Supreme Court justices in the majority opinion were appointed by Trump.

2024 Primary Election Season

Trump has consistently led the GOP field in the polls, with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in a close second behind him. Other candidates, including Nikki Haley, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and Vivek Ramaswamy, among others, are far behind the two Florida men. The town hall is Trump’s second of the 2024 primary election season. He participated in a town hall on CNN last month.
