Trump says 5 million people lifted off food stamps in 16 months
President Donald Trump said that his economic agenda has helped remove nearly 5 million people from food stamps (SNAP) over the past 16 months, speaking at a rally in Rockland County, New York alongside Rep. Mike Lawler, GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman, and New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart. He also highlighted claims of job growth and said tariff policies, tax cuts, and resulting increases in areas like manufacturing, wages, and construction are driving a broader economic upswing.

Trump made the comments during a rally in Rockland County, New York, with Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman, and New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart.

“I’ve created 300,000 jobs in the last two months,” Trump said. “Remember this right now, more people are working in the United States than at any time ever before, by far, by a big number. And in 16 months, we’ve lifted nearly 5 million Americans off of food stamps.”
Trump added that his administration’s tariff policies and tax cuts were leading to a boom in manufacturing and rising wages.
“Under our leadership, factory construction is up, new residential construction is way up, and consumer spending is way up,” the president said. “American companies are ordering core capital goods to expand their operations at the highest rate in the history of our country.”

Food stamps, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is a government initiative that helps low-income individuals afford food by supplementing their household grocery budgets. It is administered through the Agriculture Department, and benefit levels are determined based on net income and household size, operating on the assumption that 30% of a household’s net income is spent on food.
SNAP, which has over 41 million recipients, is authorized through the farm bill.
