Trump criticizes DeSantis for disloyalty during rival’s presidential campaign launch.

DeSantis vs. Trump: The Battle for the Republican Nomination

Get ready for a showdown! Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is set to officially announce his candidacy for president, but his top rival, former President Donald Trump, is not going down without a fight. In a series of scathing social media posts, Trump criticized DeSantis’s character, electability, and political record. But DeSantis is not backing down, and the battle for the Republican nomination is heating up.

Trump’s Criticisms

  • Trump claimed that DeSantis can’t win the general election or get the nomination because of his stance on Social Security and Medicare.
  • He also accused DeSantis of being a disciple of “horrible RINO Paul Ryan” and in need of a personality transplant.
  • Trump even called DeSantis disloyal, claiming that he only won the governorship with Trump’s support and endorsement.

Campaign Launch

Despite Trump’s attacks, DeSantis is moving forward with his campaign. He will officially announce his candidacy during a Twitter Spaces interview with Elon Musk on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET. DeSantis joins a crowded field of Republican contenders, including Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, Asa Hutchinson, Larry Elder, and Tim Scott.

Trump’s Strategy

According to CNN, the Trump camp is planning to “upend” DeSantis’s campaign launch with a social media blitz and gathering of Trump surrogates in Miami, where the governor is set to meet with donors from May 24-26. But DeSantis is not intimidated and is ready to take on Trump and the rest of the Republican field.
