Trump rants to children about war during youth fitness signing

During a White House event honoring National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, President Donald Trump veered from a sports-focused message to discuss the U.S.situation with Iran. He said the coming years would be a “golden age” for American sports and referenced strong economic performance before arguing that Iran has “no chance” and that the U.S. would not allow it to obtain nuclear weapons.

Trump also discussed children and delivered remarks warning that dangerous actors should not have nuclear weapons, adding that Iran lacks a navy. After tying the comments back to sports and fitness, he highlighted his view that physical fitness is linked to better mental sharpness, while reiterating the proclamations and executive actions related to athletic fitness initiatives, including the restoration of the Presidential Fitness Test.

President Donald Trump veered off script during a White House proclamation on youth sports and a presidential fitness event at the White House, addressing the war in Iran.

“So these next few years will be a golden age for American sports, just like it’s a golden age for America,” Trump said during the event Tuesday. “You know, we hit an all-time high stock market today, despite that we’re in a little skirmish with the military. I call it a skirmish because Iran has no chance. They never did, they know it.”

Trump signed a proclamation honoring National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. He also signed an executive order revitalizing the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition and reestablished the Presidential Fitness Test.

Flanked by children and professional athletes, including T.J. Oshie, Trump segued from great sporting accomplishments in the United States, such as America 250 this summer and the World Cup’s ticket numbers, to war.

“With assets like the ones we have here, we’re going to continue to win, win, win,” Trump said. “Our country is doing great. We’re breaking records in every way. And I know it’s too bad, but I had to do it. We can’t let Iran have nuclear weapons.”

Trump then turned to the children next to him and said, “You might be too young for this, I don’t know. … They probably know. They probably know better than most people. But you can’t let a bunch of lunatics have a nuclear weapon or the world would be in trouble.”

He went on to say Iran has “no navy. It’s totally wiped out.”

TRUMP RESURRECTS PRESIDENTIAL FITNESS TEST IN MAHA MOVE

Trump ping-ponged back to sports after talking about the U.S.’s success in Iran.

“So, we’re doing well,” he said. “But it’s all about having a great country. And one of the things I think, that when they talk about physical fitness, one of the things I noticed about friends of mine, all of the people, all of the great athletes here, that their mind is better than people that aren’t fit.”
