Conservatives Slam Trump for Promoting Far-Left Groups and Media to Attack DeSantis and Florida

Former President Donald Trump stirred up controversy among conservatives last week when he used data from far-left organizations and media to attack Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the state of Florida. Trump’s campaign claimed that DeSantis had led the state “to tumble into complete and total delinquency and destruction,” using information from the National Low Income Housing Coalition and the left-leaning Florida Policy Institute. Trump even shared an article from MSNBC host Joy Reid that attacked DeSantis.

This attack comes as more Americans have moved to Florida in recent years, including Trump himself, due to the freedoms protected in the state during the pandemic. However, Trump’s remarks were met with intense backlash online, with many conservatives calling out the use of far-left sources to attack a fellow Republican.

Radio host Buck Sexton pointed out DeSantis’ accomplishments, including flipping Florida from purple to solid red, being the best governor during Covid, and attracting almost 1 million people to move to Florida in his first term. Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro called Trump’s attack “total crap,” and Fox News contributor Guy Benson reminded everyone that DeSantis won Trump’s home county in the last election.

Conservative attorney Marina Medvin questioned why Trump was exerting so much energy on attacking DeSantis, who isn’t even a serious contender in the polls. Media strategist Noah Pollak noted the drastic shift in Trump’s opinion of Florida and DeSantis in just two weeks. Attorney Will Chamberlain called the entire Trump 2024 campaign an insult to conservatives’ intelligence.

It’s clear that Trump’s attack on DeSantis using far-left sources has not gone over well with many conservatives, who are questioning the former president’s motives and tactics.
