Trump posts video targeting Murkowski over vote against Blanche confirmation
president Donald Trump criticized Senator Lisa Murkowski on Truth Social for voting against Todd Blanche’s confirmation as Attorney General. Murkowski,along with Senator Susan Collins,was one of onyl two Republicans to oppose Blanche’s confirmation,which passed by a narrow 50-49 vote. Both murkowski and Collins also supported Biden’s Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2021. Trump amplified his disapproval by posting a video contrasting Murkowski’s vote against Blanche with her vote to confirm Garland, and also shared a screenshot labeling her as a “traitor” for her decision. Murkowski explained her vote by expressing concerns about Blanche’s ability to check the worst impulses of the management and criticized the politicization of the Department of Justice. Blanche thanked the Senate for confirming him and expressed his honor to serve as Attorney general, acknowledging the support from his colleagues. The confirmation process involved GOP senators overcoming some internal disagreements, with Cassidy and others ultimately voting in favor to confirm Blanche before the August recess.
President Donald Trump took aim at Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) on Truth Social Saturday morning, railing against the GOP senator for not voting to confirm Todd Blanche as Attorney General.
Murkowski was one of two Republican Senators, alongside Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), to dissent from the GOP and join Democrats against Blanche’s confirmation, which the Senate passed by a vote of 50-49 early Saturday morning. Murkowski and Collins were also two of 20 GOP Senators who crossed party lines and voted to confirm President Joe Biden‘s Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2021.

For her vote against Blanche but for Garland, Trump took to Truth Social to shade Murkowski. The president posted a video with a still image of Murkowski next to a video clip of Garland as he held a 2022 press conference announcing that Biden’s DOJ would be unsealing the FBI’s search warrant, which Garland personally approved, that was used in the raid of Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago.
“There are, however, certain points I want you to know. First, I personally approve the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter. Second, the Department does not take such a decision lightly,” Garland said in the clip that Trump posted.
Trump also posted a screenshot of another user’s social media post that called Murkowski “owned” and a “traitor” for her decision to vote “no” on Blanche’s confirmation on the grounds of weaponization of justice concerns, while she voted for Garland.
Murkowski announced her decision to vote against Blanche’s confirmation on Friday, saying she doesn’t believe he will be able to “check the worst impulses of this administration.” She did, however, call Blanche “decent and capable.”
“The politicization — even weaponization — of the Department did not start with this administration but has accelerated during it,” Murkowski said in her statement on her vote. “I take issue with the handling of the release of the Epstein files; the sweeping immunity protections granted to the President, his family, and their businesses; the statements that have been made to anti-abortion groups; and the repeated targeting of individuals ranging from former administration staff to sitting U.S. Senators.”
Blanche gave his gratitude to the Senate for staying late into early Saturday morning ahead of the chamber’s August recess to hold the confirmation vote in a statement Saturday morning.
“I am deeply honored by the trust and confidence President Trump has placed in me to lead the Department of Justice as our great nation’s 88th Attorney General,” Blanche said.

“To the dedicated public servants of the Department of Justice, thank you for your work each day to uphold the law and keep our country safe,” Blanche continued.
Blanche’s written agreement to kill the “anti-weaponization” fund swung GOP Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) in favor of voting to confirm Blanche this week. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), the last holdout on the confirmation, announced in a floor speech on Friday that he would also be voting in favor, paving the way for Blanche’s confirmation on Saturday. Republicans could only afford to lose two votes on the Blanche nomination due to Sen. Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) absence from the chamber.
