Inclusive of all candidates, Trump leads Biden by 9 points at 42-33

Assessing Biden’s time in office so far, 61% say his presidency thus far has been a failure, while 39% say it’s been a success. That’s narrowly worse than the 57% who called the first year of his administration a failure in January 2022, with 41% calling it a success.

According to a recent CNN poll conducted by SSRS, Donald Trump maintains an edge over President Joe Biden as the campaign progresses and amid the former president’s legal proceedings. The public perception of the first term of these two contenders seeking a second presidential stint seems to favor Trump, with a majority of Americans now viewing Trump’s presidency favorably and considering it successful. Conversely, a significant portion of the population deems Biden’s term as a failure.

In the latest poll, Trump retains 49% support among registered voters in a direct match-up with Biden, mirroring the results from CNN’s previous national poll in January. Biden’s support stands at 43%, showing only a slight decrease from January’s figures. Looking back, 55% of Americans regard Trump’s presidency positively, viewing it as a success, while 44% perceive it as a failure. This marks a shift from January 2021, where 55% believed Trump’s presidency was unsuccessful.

In contrast, opinions on Biden’s tenure as president lean towards failure, with 61% expressing dissatisfaction with his performance so far, while only 39% consider it a success. These numbers are marginally worse than the assessment of his first year in office in January 2022, where 57% viewed it as a failure and 41% as a success.
