Trump gives first look at UFC arena planned for White House lawn
President Donald Trump hosted UFC fighters at the White House on Wednesday as part of the America 250 Independence day festivities, previewing an event scheduled for June 14-also his 80th birthday. The lineup includes fighters such as Justin Gaethje and Ilia Topuria. Trump estimated attendance could reach about 100,000 people, with roughly 4,000 seated on the South Lawn and the rest watching on eight screens at The Ellipse. While showing renderings of a cage and the arena setup, he praised the event’s appeal and called it perhaps the biggest the White House has hosted.
President Donald Trump hosted a number of UFC fighters on Wednesday for an impromptu event to tout the upcoming fight on the White House South Lawn in honor of America’s 250th Independence Day celebrations.
The event, which will feature the likes of Justin Gaethje, Ilia Topuria, and more, is slated for June 14, the same day as the president’s 80th birthday.

Trump estimated that as many as 100,000 people would attend the fights, with roughly 4,000 seats on the South Lawn itself and the rest of the crowd watching on eight viewing screens set up at The Ellipse.
“They say it’s the greatest sport. I could do it, you know, but I’d rather sink a 3-footer personally,” the president told the gathered group of reporters while showing off renderings of the arena. “But there’s no better thing to watch than this.”

“I think it’s going to be the biggest event we’ve ever had. I mean, the White House doesn’t really do athletic events, and these are all the greatest champions,” he added later in his remarks. “They’re the greatest fighters in the world. You can tell by looking at it, these are the greatest fighters in the world.”
