Trump’s repeated soft-on-crime stance with certain Democrats irks Republicans

Former President Donald Trump, a vocal advocate of “LAW AND ORDER,”‌ has‌ paradoxically stood in defense ⁤of some Democrats entangled in legal issues. He accuses the⁣ Justice Department, responsible for indicting him twice via special counsel Jack Smith, of being manipulated by President Joe Biden for political gain in their potential presidential rematch. Despite this, Trump ⁢has also criticized the DOJ’s handling of certain Democrats.

Former President Donald Trump has touted “LAW AND ORDER” regularly, but amid his legal woes, he has defended some Democrats against prosecution from the Justice Department.

Trump has regularly claimed that the Justice Department, which has levied two indictments against him through special counsel Jack Smith, has been weaponized by President Joe Biden and is “election interference” for the presidential rematch between himself and Biden in November. While Trump has blasted the DOJ, he has also attacked its prosecutions of some Democrats.

Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich

Blagojevich, a Democrat, was indicted by a federal grand jury in 2009 on corruption charges stemming from his alleged attempts to sell the Senate seat held by Barack Obama, who resigned to become president. He was found guilty of most charges levied against him and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Blagojevich began his prison sentence in 2012.

Trump, while president in 2020, commuted Blagojevich’s sentence. The former president has also regularly decried Blagojevich’s conviction.

Blagojevich was in attendance at Trump’s festivities at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida over the weekend.

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ)

Menendez was federally indicted by the DOJ on corruption charges in September 2023, with the charging document accusing him of using his position in the upper chamber of Congress to enrich himself and his wife.

While Trump has not been favorable toward Menendez, he told the Daily Caller in September that the indictment by the DOJ furthers his claim that there is a “two-tier system of justice” and alleged Biden has done far worse than the New Jersey Democrat.

“I think this was an attack, that shows again, in a certain different way, because he wasn’t getting along too well with the Democrats and with Biden, and he disagrees with Biden on a lot of things,” Trump said.

“This is also a two-tier system of justice because Biden has stolen a lot more than he has. I mean, he has taken a lot more money than Menendez,” he added.

Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX)

Cuellar was the latest member of the 118th Congress to be indicted when he was charged for allegedly accepting nearly $600,000 in bribes from two foreign entities last week. He has maintained his innocence against the charges.

Trump slammed the indictment in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, claiming that Biden was behind the indictment over Cuellar’s border policies.

“Biden just Indicted Henry Cuellar because the Respected Democrat Congressman wouldn’t play Crooked Joe’s Open Border game. He was for Border Control, so they said, ‘Let’s use the FBI and DOJ to take him out!’ This is the way they operate. They’re a bunch of D.C. Thugs, and at some point they will be paying a very big price for what they have done to our Country. CROOKED JOE BIDEN IS A THREAT TO DEMOCRACY!” Trump posted.

The former president has four indictments against him, including two federal ones based on charges of mishandling classified documents and attempting to overturn the 2020 election. His other two indictments in Fulton County, Georgia, and Manhattan stem from the 2020 election and alleged hush money payments ahead of the 2016 election, respectively.

Trump’s hush money trial is in its fourth week. Porn actress Stormy Daniels is set to testify in the trial on Tuesday.
