The announcement of the large sports event comes after the Washington Commanders said last week they would be moving back to the district, occupying the abandoned RFK Stadium grounds after a $4.7 billion redevelopment of the area. But the stadium isn’t set to open until 2030.
Goodell said a new stadium would raise the district’s chances of hosting a Super Bowl “dramatically.”
“I didn’t come here to announce that, but I would say dramatically,” he said during an event.
“I really do think this community could be a great host for a Super Bowl. The [new] stadium is always the missing piece,” he said.
