Trump escalates quickly following DeSantis ‘hush money to a porn star’ jab

Former President Donald Trump responded to Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) after he commented on allegations of Trump’s affair with adult film star Stormy Daniels. DeSantis criticized the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for considering possible charges against Trump over an alleged hush money payment to Daniels. Trump retaliated by making veiled accusations of his own, writing on Truth Social that “Ron DeSanctimonious will probably find out” about false accusations “when he’s unfairly and illegally attacked by a woman, even classmates that are ‘underage’ (or possibly man!).” Donald Trump Jr. also weighed in, criticizing DeSantis for ignoring Democrats’ “weaponizing the law.”

Trump has consistently denied having an affair with Daniels and any wrongdoing in the Manhattan investigation against him. Prosecutors are investigating a possible falsification of business records allegedly used to conceal a 2016 election cycle-era $130,000 payment to Daniels to secure her silence about the alleged encounter with Trump about a decade earlier.

DeSantis later defended Trump during a press conference stating, “The Manhattan district attorney is a Soros-funded prosecutor, so he, like other Soros-funded prosecutors, they weaponize their office to impose a political agenda on society at the expense of the rule of law and public safety.”

Donald Trump Jr. dismissed DeSantis’ response as “pure weakness” and accused him of being “totally owned by Karl Rove, Paul Ryan & his billionaire donors.” DeSantis has consistently polled as Trump’s top challenger in the 2024 GOP primary race.

In a since-deleted post, Trump suggested that he “will be arrested on Tuesday” and called for “protest, take our nation back.”

A grand jury is expected to hear on Monday from lawyer Robert Costello, who is expected to counter former Trump lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen, a key witness in the inquiry.
