Trump celebrates Toyota moving production from Mexico to Texas
President Donald Trump praised Toyota’s decision to relocate its manufacturing operations from Mexico to the United States, specifically Texas, as evidence that his tariffs are effective. Toyota announced a $3.6 billion expansion at its San Antonio plant, which includes transferring almost all components for the Tacoma pickup trucks from its Mexican facility, creating approximately 2,000 new jobs. Trump emphasized this move as a result of his tariffs during a social media post and a meeting with Turkish President erdogan, claiming it demonstrates the strength of the U.S. economy. Though, Toyota indicated that the transition would take up to four years and reaffirmed its commitment to its entire North American production network. The announcement occurs shortly after the U.S. declined to renew the USMCA trade agreement, with Toyota supporting a quick resolution to maintain regional competitiveness.
