Trump criticizes Abbott for not speaking out on Paxton impeachment.

Former President Trump Calls Out Texas Governor for Silence on AG’s Impeachment

“MISSING IN ACTION! Where is the Governor of Texas on his Attorney General’s Impeachment?”

Former President Donald Trump has criticized Texas Governor Greg Abbott for his silence on the impeachment of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. The GOP state attorney general, who is a staunch ally of Trump, was impeached by a vote of 121-23 in the Texas state House on Saturday. This sets up the possibility that he could be permanently removed from office if the state Senate votes the same way. He will be temporarily removed from his post until the Senate trial concludes.

AG Paxton’s Statement

Following the impeachment vote, AG Paxton released a statement expressing his displeasure with the state House’s handling of his impeachment proceedings. However, he stated that he had “full confidence” that the “process will be fair and just” in the Senate, where his wife Angela Paxton holds a seat.

State Senate Trial Uncertain

It is not yet clear if the state Senate will hold a trial, as there is nowhere near the necessary two-thirds support to convict him in that chamber. While the Republicans hold the majority in the Senate, some 60 Republican House members voted to impeach Paxton. This comes after years of corruption accusations against Paxton, including being indicted in 2015 on felony security fraud charges that he still has yet to beat. Despite these scandals, he has established himself as a prominent conservative legal warrior and a known foe of the Biden administration.
