Trump Attorney General Bill Barr: Indictment Designed To Sabotage GOP White House Chances In 2024

William Barr, the former Attorney General of the United States, has claimed that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has indicted former President Donald Trump in an attempt to boost his chances of winning the Republican Party nomination for the 2024 presidential election, only to sabotage his eventual chances of winning in the general election.

The indictment consists of up to 34 counts and accuses Trump of making a $130,000 payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels to secure her silence about an alleged dalliance the two shared during the 2016 presidential election.

Barr has criticised the move, warning that it amounts to “the archetypal abuse of the prosecutorial function to engage in a political hit job” and claiming that if the case turns out to be as weak as he believes it would be “a disgrace.” He also believes that Bragg’s motivations are more political than judicial and that the resulting media attention on Trump would damage the Republican Party’s chances of success in 2024 by keeping the focus off other candidates.

Barr did not comment on the indictment itself, stating that he is yet to see it.
