Trump Allegedly ‘Intentionally Concealed’ Existence Of Classified Docs At Mar-A-Lago From His Lawyers: Report

Last week, prosecutors claimed to have “sufficient” evidence that former President Donald Trump intentionally concealed the existence of classified material at his Mar-a-Lago residence from his legal team, according to a U.S. federal judge. The judge, who was overseeing the case until recently, stated that the evidence effectively revokes attorney-client privileges and that Trump’s lawyers could be forced to testify. The criminal investigation is focused on determining whether Trump’s lawyers falsely certified that all classified material had been returned to the government in response to a grand jury subpoena, and determining if Trump sought to conceal those materials.

In June 2022, federal authorities seized classified material from the property. However, two months later, the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago and found many more classified materials labeled as such, despite Trump’s legal team signing a written statement certifying that all classified material had been removed from the property. The investigation team will need to present evidence to a higher standard to charge and convict the former president.

In a sealed filing, U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell ordered Trump attorney Evan Corcoran to comply with a grand jury subpoena to testify and to provide many records related to the alleged “criminal scheme.” Although prosecutors have enough evidence to revoke Corcoran’s attorney-client privilege, they will still require evidence of a higher standard to charge Trump with a criminal offense.

A spokesperson for Trump called the allegations false and claimed that prosecutors only attack lawyers with no case. News of the case is still developing.
