President Trump⁢ Reflects on His⁣ First Term

In‍ a recent‌ interview with ⁢Fox ⁢News’⁢ Mario Bartiromo,‍ President Donald⁤ Trump opened up about⁤ his first term in office, acknowledging that‍ he made mistakes along the way. ⁣He‍ attributed ⁣most of these issues‍ to ⁢the‍ people‌ he ⁣chose to⁢ fill various roles‍ in⁤ his administration.

Acknowledging Mistakes

When⁤ asked if‍ there‍ was anything‌ he would do differently⁢ this⁢ time‌ around, President Trump responded, ”The mistake ⁢would be people. I mean,‍ I wouldn’t have put a ⁢guy ‌like ‌Bill ‍Barr ⁢in—he‌ was ⁣weak and‌ pathetic.” ⁤He⁤ also ‌mentioned his ‍regret in appointing Jeff ‌Sessions‍ as attorney general, as ⁢they clashed during their time together.

President Trump further explained, “There ‍are ⁣some⁣ people that I wouldn’t have put ‍in. You⁣ know, most people were good.⁣ But ⁤I had some people—we had [former Secretary ⁢of ⁣Defense Mark] Esper. I didn’t ‌like⁣ him. He was incompetent. I thought ⁣we had other people I didn’t ⁣like.”

When questioned about why‌ he appointed ‌these individuals in the first ‌place,⁤ President Trump ⁢responded, “Because every ⁢president,‍ you ‍put somebody in, you think ⁣they’re good.⁣ But one thing that ‍has ⁣happened and ⁤I⁢ find⁤ it very interesting, and this is⁤ the way life goes, I put ‌people‌ in—I was there‍ 17 ⁣times in Washington, D.C. ⁤my whole‍ life. I never stayed ‌overnight. The ⁣press actually reported 70 I don’t know if it’s ‍right, but it’s probably ⁤pretty right.”

President ⁢Trump admitted that he ⁢didn’t⁢ know what ⁢to expect when he became President, as he was unfamiliar⁤ with the people in Washington, D.C. However, he confidently stated,⁢ “I know‍ the people now better than anybody has⁢ ever ⁤known the people. I⁢ know the⁢ good ⁢ones, the bad ⁣ones, the dumb ones, the ⁢smart ones.”

Did He⁢ ‘Drain the Swamp’?

⁤ ⁣

Another ⁢topic discussed in the interview ⁢was whether President Trump had fulfilled his‌ promise ‌to⁤ “drain the ⁢swamp.” This phrase referred ⁤to his campaign⁣ pledge to⁢ root out ‍D.C. bureaucrats ⁢and entrenched ⁤establishment figures in the capital‌ city.

⁣⁤

Mario Bartiromo challenged him, saying, “You didn’t drain the‌ swamp like you said you would, ⁣you didn’t‍ drain the swamp.” This criticism has‍ been commonly directed at the former president by conservative individuals.
