In a tweet, he stated, “This money will support over 1 million displaced and conflict-affected Palestinians. And we will have mechanisms in place so this aid reaches those in need – not Hamas or terrorist groups.”

However, this assurance did little to appease critics like Florida Governor and GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis. He expressed his disbelief, stating, “Aid to the Gaza Strip is what Biden is prioritizing today? This aid will, of course, be commandeered by Hamas. No taxpayer dollars should be sent to Gaza. Stop funding jihad!”

Other Republican senators, such as Tom Cotton and Rick Scott, also voiced their concerns. Cotton, a veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, warned that under the current circumstances, “humanitarian assistance” could potentially resupply Hamas terrorists. Scott vowed to propose legislation to halt Biden’s funding, emphasizing the need to prioritize the safe release of all hostages before providing aid to Hamas-controlled Gaza.
It is worth noting that during his presidency, Trump terminated all aid to Gaza and Judea and Samaria as part of his strong anti-terror foreign policy. However, the Biden administration restored this aid in April 2021, only to witness Hamas launching thousands of rockets at Israel shortly after.
Senator Ted Cruz had previously warned about the consequences of Biden’s perceived weakness towards terrorist groups. He stated, “The longer Joe Biden shows weakness to Hamas or Hezbollah or Iran, the more you’re going to see terrorist attacks escalating.” This prediction proved true, as the most recent Hamas terrorist attack occurred shortly after the Biden administration announced the unfreezing of $6 billion in Iranian funds.
Trump also weighed in on the situation, condemning the tragedy in Israel as evidence of the “deadly consequences” resulting from Biden’s ”three years of breathtaking weakness and appeasement.” He expressed these views in an opinion column for Newsweek.
