Top House Oversight Democrat releases transcript refuting Biden bribery claims.
The Ukrainian Oligarch’s Denial: No Contact with Joe Biden
The alleged bribery scandal involving Hunter Biden and former Vice President Joe Biden has taken a new turn with the release of transcripts from an interview with Mykola Zlochevsky, the head of Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company. In the transcripts, Zlochevsky denies ever interacting with the former vice president, contradicting previous claims.
The Transcripts and Giuliani’s Involvement
The transcripts, recently made public by House Oversight Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-MD), reveal Zlochevsky’s statement to an associate of Rudy Giuliani. Zlochevsky states, “No one from Burisma ever had any contacts with VP Biden or people working for him during Hunter Biden’s engagement.”
It is important to note that at the time of this interview in 2019, Giuliani was reportedly seeking information on the Bidens on behalf of then-President Donald Trump, in preparation for the 2020 election.
A First Look at the Transcripts
While previous reports mentioned meetings between Zlochevsky and Giuliani associates, this is the first time the transcripts have been released to the public. Lev Parnas, an associate of Giuliani, provided the transcripts to Congress.
Zlochevsky’s denial in the transcripts contradicts an unverified FBI-generated FD-1023 tip sheet, which alleges that he paid $5 million to both Joe Biden and Hunter Biden to pressure the Ukrainian government to fire a prosecutor investigating Burisma.
Joe Biden’s Involvement and Zlochevsky’s Knowledge
In January 2018, Joe Biden himself claimed that he ordered the Ukrainian government to fire the prosecutor or risk losing aid from the White House. Zlochevsky, however, states in the transcripts that he had no knowledge of why Joe Biden pressured the Ukrainian government to take this action, learning about it only through media sources.
Raskin, in a letter to Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY), highlights Zlochevsky’s explicit denial of the allegations made against him and Burisma. Despite being interviewed as part of a campaign to gather damaging information about the Biden family, Zlochevsky denies any contact with Joe Biden or his representatives during Hunter Biden’s tenure on the Burisma board.
Burisma’s Role in Trump’s First Impeachment
Burisma also gained attention when it was mentioned in a July 2019 call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This call led to a whistleblower complaint and ultimately Trump’s first impeachment.
Comer, in response to Raskin’s release of the transcripts, challenges the denial and claims that it does not disprove the information in the FD-1023 tip sheet. He calls for the FBI to make the tip sheet public to clarify the situation.
As the controversy surrounding the alleged bribery scandal continues, the release of these transcripts adds a new layer to the ongoing investigation.
