Top Dem Donor Charged With Five Counts of Wire Fraud, Faces Maximum 20-Year Sentence
An ex-lawyer of high profile and top Democrat donor hosted a fundraiser to support President Barack Obama Joe Biden After being indicted by federal grand jury for allegedly embezzling more than $18million from the suffering clients, is currently facing prison.
The Justice Department announced that Tom Girardi (83) was arrested in Los Angeles for five counts wire fraud. He could be sentenced to a maximum 20 year federal prison term.
The charges were part of an indictment that accused Girardi of embezzling more than $15 million from clients and using funds to cover his law firm’s payroll and personal expenses.
The case also included charges against Christopher Kamon, the former chief financial officer of Girardi’s LA-based law firm, Girardi Keese, indicating they “devised, participated in, and executed a scheme to defraud victim clients” The firm was bankrupted in 2020.
Eight counts of wire fraud were brought against Girardi and his son-in law David Lira. Kamon was also charged.
Prosecutors alleged that the trio allegedly stole more than $3million in settlement funds intended for family members of those who were killed in a Boeing airplane crash off the coast Indonesia.
The indictments come amid the spectacular downfall of top Democrat donor Girardi, who was once LA’s top attorney, but now faces 20 years in prison.
Girardi maintained close ties with powerful Democratic politicians, mayors and governors, members Congress, presidents, and presidential hopefuls.

According to the 2020 analysis of the Los Angeles Times, Girardi, his family and employees contributed at least $7.5million in political contributions to candidates or political committees. This included everything from city council races to presidential elections. Most of this money went to Democrats including Biden. Girardi hosted a lavish LA fundraiser during 2020’s presidential cycle.
Girardi has also given thousands of dollars each to Biden, Hillary Clinton, Senator Dianne Feinstein and many other elected officials at the federal, state and local levels.
California Gov. Campaign finance records show that Gavin Newsom was awarded $87,600 by Girardi for his 2018 governorship campaign and $8,500 from Girardi to support his 2014 lieutenant governor campaign.
Girardi and his estranged spouse, “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” According to election filings, Erika Jayne, reality TV star, donated more than $2million to the National Democratic Party and individual candidate candidates. This was despite Girardi apparently defaulting on high interest loans and having to liquidate his stock portfolio.
Girardi’s wealth as a high-powered attorney allowed him easy and intimate access to Democrats.
But Girardi’s lavish lifestyle steadily came crashing as legal issues worsened, culminating with the recent indictments.
Jayne, the former attorney, is also going through divorce proceedings. Jayne filed for divorce after 21-years of marriage.
Girardi, 83, was disbarred last year, his firm Girardi Keese filed for bankruptcy, and he’s said to be suffering from dementia and is under a court conservatorship, Entertainment Weekly reported.
