Murdaugh Trial Closes

Alex Murdaugh, a prominent South Carolina lawyer, was today sentenced. He is accused of killing his son and wife. Ashe Short, the Senior Editor of Daily Wire, spoke to the Morning Wire. “Afternoon Update” podcast:

In the closing arguments of the case against the disgraced South Carolina attorney, both the defense and prosecution have made their points. Murdaugh was argued by the prosecution to be the only one who has the motive, means and ability to murder his family members. Although the defense pointed out the inept investigation, there is no direct evidence that Murdaugh was the prominent attorney.

Blinken, Lavrov Meet

Surprise meeting between U.S. Secretary Of State Antony Blinken, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the G20 summit in New Delhi on Thursday. Cabot Phillips, Senior Editor at Daily Wire, is here to provide more information:

Blinken met with Lavrov for approximately ten minute and although they didn’t share everything, it marked the most senior and positive sign for diplomacy among Russia and America since before the start of war. According to Blinken, he raised the possibility of releasing Paul Whelan — the U.S. marine veteran accused of being a spy who’s been held by Russia since late 2018. Blinken also said he encouraged his Russian counterpart to re-engage in the treaty known as START — the last remaining nuclear weapon treaty between Russia and the U.S. — which Russia pulled out of earlier this year. American officials claim that the agreement is needed to prevent nuclear weapon proliferation and ensure the safety of the entire world.

Su was the head of the California Labor Department, which saw as much as $31Billion in state pandemic relief go directly to fraudsters. Two years ago, she acknowledged that the matter was there but said that the Trump administration did not provide sufficient guidance as to how to stop illegal activity. Karine Jean-Pierre was asked by a journalist to discuss Su’s nomination. However, she dismissed the matter and pointed to the number of claims Californian officials had to handle.

The Senate will need to confirm Su again.

Tennessee Targets Drag Shows With ‘Pro-Child Law’

On Thursday, Tennessee’s Senate passed a bill that prohibits drag shows or events featuring them in front of children. Republican Governor Bill Lee stated that he will sign the law into law. Tennessee would be the first state to adopt such a law.

The law, if signed, would ban adults from impersonating the opposite sex in public or near where children could see it while appealing to prurient interests — that is, engaging in a sexually suggestive performance. Anybody who violates this law will be charged with a misdemeanor and repeated offenders could face felony charges.

Critics label it discriminatory, arguing that it violates freedom of expression. Advocates of the law call it “fairly discriminatory.” “pro-child.”
