Threat ‘neutralized’ after shooting at San Diego Islamic center: Police
San Diego police said an active-shooter threat at the Islamic Center of San Diego was “neutralized” after officers responded around noon on Monday. Mayor todd Gloria said emergency personnel were working to protect the community and secure the area, and San Diego police advised residents to avoid the nearby 7000 block of Eckstrom Avenue because the situation was contained to 7050 Eckstrom Ave. Reports described a heavy police/SWAT presence along with fire-rescue and medical crews, and nearby schools were evacuated as a perimeter was established. California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office said he was briefed on the evolving situation and that the state’s emergency services team is coordinating with local law enforcement.

“I am aware of the active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont and am continuing to receive updates from law enforcement,” San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said in an X post. “Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area.”
