‘This Is What Surprise Looks Like’: Jamie Lee Curtis Shares Photos Of The Moment She Got First Oscar Nod

Actress Jamie Lee CurtisShe was 64 when she received her first Oscar nomination Tuesday for her performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” — and she shared a series of photos documenting her reaction to the news.

Curtis shared three snaps — one of her reaction to learning of her own nomination In the Best Supporting Actress Category, one of her faces when she realized that her friend, Stephanie Hsu, had been nominated. One more of her joyous embrace with Christopher Guest.

“THIS IS WHAT SURPRISE LOOKS LIKE!” Curtis captioned Curtis’ group of photos by explaining that the moments were captured by a friend, who drove up to her house in early morning hours and offered her to wait while she watched the news as the nominations were announced.

“One of my oldest besties @debopp texted me at 5:15 that she was sitting in front of my house and did I want company watching the announcements,” Curtis explained. “Debbie Oppenheimer has won an Oscar for the beautiful documentary she made about her mother’s story as one of the kindertransport in the Oscar-winning documentary ‘Into The Arms Of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport.’”

“There she was in the pitch black, freezing, cold in a parka,” Curtis continued, noting that years ago, she had done the same for her friend. “She came in and sat with me as I had sat with her the day she was heading toward the Oscar ceremony, the year she won. We held hands. I didn’t even realize she took pictures.”

Curtis went on to describe what was happening in each of the photos — which she didn’t even realize her friend had taken until later: “The first is the moment of hearing my name, and then the thrill of my friend, Stephanie’s @stephaniehsuofficial name, and the rest of the nominations and then the best thing of all, a loving embrace for my husband.”

“No filters. No fakery. Just the truth of a moment of joy Captured by a friend. Hey @everythingeverywheremovie we went to 11!” She ended her remarks.
