The Weekend Sports Watch Round 2: All You Need To Know

We’ve reached that time of the week again, folks. It’s that glorious moment when you’re considering dipping out a little early from work to get a head start on the weekend, and how you’ll be spending your Saturday and Sunday should be at the top of your mind. 

If you’re as sports crazed as the rest of us, first on the list should be checking out what sports are on TV this weekend. Lucky for you, The Daily Wire has you covered. No reason to break out the remote and channel surf the guide, we’re here to give you options. 

Let’s take a look at which sporting events will be keeping you from your responsibilities this weekend. 

NHL Playoffs

The Stanley Cup playoffs have arrived and we’re ready for the heart-pounding action on a nightly basis from here on out. 

After a few COVID-related delays and a 56-game schedule, playoff hockey is back. On Saturday, the Stanley Cup playoffs will kick off, albeit with a different look. 

Due to the pandemic, the NHL playoffs are split into four divisions in order to reduce travel. Eastern Conference and Western Conference championship trophies will not be awarded, and the first round will feature the No.1 and No.4 seeds playing each other with the No.2 and No.3 seeds also matching up. 

The winners of the first-round will square off to determine who wins the division. For the Stanley Cup semifinals, seeding will be determined by regular season point totals. 

So, let’s get to your viewing schedule. 

On Saturday, the Washington Capitals will play the Boston Bruins for a 7.15pm EST puck drop. Sunday, the NHL has graced us with three games. The Pittsburgh Penguins will play the New York Islanders at noon EST, the Vegas Golden Knights will face off against the Minnesota Wild at 4pm EST, and the Florida Panthers will go up against the Tampa Bay Lighting at 7.30pm EST. 

NBA Basketball

The NBA is in the last few days of the regular season, in a year that has seen more than its fair share of bad basketball. We can’t wait until playoff basketball begins, but there are a few things that need to be settled before we can get to that. 

As of Friday, there are only two teams locked into their playoff seeding with three days remaining in the regular season — the San Antonio Spurs will be the No. 10 seed in the West and the Boston Celtics will be the No. 7 seed in the East. Anything can happen.

Friday night, there are more than enough games to keep you busy. The Dallas Mavericks will play the Toronto Raptors at 9pm EST as they attempt to hold on to the fifth seed in the West. The Denver Nuggets visit the Detroit Pistons at 8pm EST and the Los Angeles Clippers visit the Houston Rockets at 9pm EST. Both are important games for seeding as the Nuggets own the tiebreaker with the Clippers and sit just one game back of LA in the loss column. The Clippers technically have a chance to overtake the Phoenix Suns for the No. 2 seed, though they’ll need help from Phoenix. 

On Sunday, the game of the day will be at 3:30pm EST as the Golden State Warriors welcome the Memphis Grizzlies to San Francisco. Both teams are tied in the loss column with the season series tied at 1-1. The winner of this game will be the No. 8 seed in the play-in tournament. 

UFC

Dana White opened up the post-COVID sports world with wild success three weeks ago in Jacksonville, Florida. White told The Daily Wire that he planned on packing the stands, and he did not disappoint. 

“We sold out in Jacksonville, we sold out in Houston, and we sold out in Vegas. Three back-to-back fights,” White said on Candace. “50,000 tickets, all three combined in less than 5 minutes, and I think what that means is, people are done.” 

“I’m going to pack this place with people. And we’re going to put on fights on Saturday. There’s gonna be that buzz, that energy, that camaraderie that people feel again about being around 15,000 people and enjoying something together.” 

UFC 262 will take place on Saturday at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, with the lightweight title bout between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler being the primetime fight. The main card starts at 10pm EST and can be ordered on ESPN+. See below for the matchups.

• Lightweight Title Bout: Charles Oliveira (-134) vs Michael Chandler (+110)
