The hosts of The View talk show warned viewers that there “won’t be guardrails” should former President Donald Trump get elected this November.

The hosts were discussing a new interview that Trump conducted with Time magazine, in which the former president said he would appoint a “real special prosecutor” to go after President Joe Biden and use the National Guard to remove undocumented migrants across the country. Alyssa Farah Griffin, who served in the Trump administration as the White House director of strategic communications, warned that people ought to take what Trump says literally, rebuking a claim made by former Attorney General Bill Barr.

“And I’ve said this a thousand times: There won’t be guardrails next time,” Griffin said. “There won’t be Mark Esper, there won’t be John Kelly. He says he’s going to only hire loyalists and people who say that the last election is stolen. So, he’s admitting he’s going to staff a White House and the entire federal government with either liars or lunatics.”

Griffin added that a second Trump presidency would be “very scary,” and that people waking up to the news of Trump winning the 2024 presidential election is very much in the realm of possibility.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg stated that the current state of the 2024 election ought to be motivation for voters, and that people need to vote for either “the country you grew up in,” or for “a dictatorship.”

Recent polling data from CNN found that Trump would beat Biden in a one-to-one matchup among registered voters, with Trump at 49% and Biden at 43%. Earlier this year, Trump polled at the same level, whereas Biden’s polling was at 45%.

Trump’s lead in various polls, however, does not aid him in the courtroom, as the former president is dealing with several court battles while campaigning for president. Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor, told the Washington Examiner that Trump being jailed in his legal trials could lead to “mass protests or even civil unrest,” though Rahmani also said that the former president receiving jail time is unlikely.
