The View Hosts Discuss Chris Christie’s Electability Ahead of Anticipated Campaign Announcement

The View hosts spent a segment on the show Friday discussing former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s electability ahead of his anticipated campaign announcement.

When Christie launches his presidential campaign, he will face off against some tough competition, including former President Donald Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), political commentator Larry Elder, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy in the race to win the GOP presidential nomination. Christie last competed for the nomination in 2016.

“Now, Chris Christie, in 2016, finished sixth in the New Hampshire primary,” Joy Behar pointed out. “But you know what? I think he can take on Trump easier than the others because he’s from New Jersey.”

Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin agreed Christie “is bombastic.” Hostin went on to read an excerpt from Christie’s book about the time he allegedly contracted COVID-19 from Trump and suffered severe health effects as a result.

“Yet after all of that, he said he would vote for Trump and support him,” Hostin said. Her fellow co-hosts corrected her to remind her that Christie no longer supports Trump.

“Listen, Chris Christie has very high unfavorables in the Republican Party,” host Alyssa Farah Griffin said, “so I don’t think there’s a path for him to win the presidency, but I think he can play a really important role on a debate stage, and in the primary challenging Trump in a way no one currently in the field has been willing to do — taking him on in his unfitness, on Jan. 6, on his legal issues, his character. He knows him well.”

Host Ana Navarro agreed with Griffin despite their differing politics.

“I think that [Christie] brings a scrappiness, a willingness to take on Trump directly. He knows law, also. I think that’s very interesting because of all the legal woes, that indictment that Trump is under.”

This episode aired after Trump went on the offensive against Christie during a Thursday television interview, reporting that the former governor was polling “at 6% in New Jersey” and zero nationwide.

Former Vice President Mike Pence is also expected to announce a campaign of his own.
