‘The Media Wants to Put It On Me’ — Travis Scott Speaks On Tragedy Amid Rumors He Asked Judge to Dismiss Charges

Rapper Travis Scott is finally speaking out on the deadly “Astroworld” music festival on November 5 in Houston that killed 10, including a nine-year-old child.

The performer has been mostly silent on the tragedy for the past few weeks as lawsuits piled up. However, even as he publicly apologized during a 50-minute conversation with Charlamagne tha God, there are rumors that the rapper made a motion to dismiss all charges that were filed against him.

“I’ve been on different types of emotions, an emotional rollercoaster,” Scott told Charlemagne, according to Rolling Stone. “It gets so hard because I always feel connected to my fans, and I went through something and my fans went through something and people’s parents went through something and it really hurts. It really hurts the community, it hurts the city. It’s just been a lot of thoughts, a lot of feelings, a lot of grieving, and just trying to wrap my head around it.”

During the conversation, Scott insisted he did not know fans were in trouble at any point, or he would have stopped performing. This assertion conflicts with some eyewitness accounts.

“It wasn’t really until minutes until the press conference [after the show] that I figured out what happened. Even after the show, you’re just kind of hearing things, but I didn’t know the exact details” Scott explained. “And even at that moment, you’re like, ‘Wait, what?’ You just went through something.”

Scott later claimed he “double-checked” to make sure everyone was OK. “I got a response everyone was OK,” he insisted.

The 30-year-old performer doesn’t technically take responsibility for the events that occurred at his show, and it sounds like he never will. TMZ reported that Scott motioned to have at least one specific lawsuit against him dropped and that more are forthcoming. “Travis is planning to issue a similar response for every civil suit against him — and trust us, there are many,” the source allegedly said, according to the outlet.

While speaking with Charlamagne, Scott blamed “the media” for accusing him of wrongdoing.

“I’m the face of the festival, I’m the artist, so the media wants to put it on me, but at the end of the day I don’t think it’s more so about that, it’s more so about stepping up to figure out what the problem is,” the rapper said. “And I could take that. I could take stepping out to figure out what the problem is, I could take stepping up to figure out what the solution is so that it never happened again.”

The Daily Wire reported earlier that Scott is already facing at least three lawsuits from injured fans. These lawsuits also implicate co-performer Drake, promotion company Live Nation, and the concert venue, NRG Stadium.

Victims’ families are unlikely to accept an apology — even a weak one — from Scott anytime soon. Many already rejected his offer to pay for funerals following the tragedy.
