Wilson’s family originally filed for the conservatorship in February after the 81-year-old musician was diagnosed with dementia. They explained in a statement to Fox News why they felt the court-ordered measure was necessary.
“Following the passing of Brian’s beloved wife Melinda, after careful consideration and consultation among Brian, his seven children, Gloria Ramos and Brian’s doctors (and consistent with family processes put in place by Brian and Melinda), we are confirming that longtime Wilson family representatives LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers will serve as Brian’s co-conservators of the person,” the statement said.
Prior to her passing, Wilson’s wife had provided for his “daily living needs,” court documents obtained by the outlet stated.
“This decision was made to ensure that there will be no extreme changes to the household and Brian and the children living at home will be taken care of and remain in the home where they are cared for by Gloria Ramos and the wonderful team at the house who have been in place for many years helping take care of the family,” the statement continued.
“Brian will be able to enjoy all of his family and friends and continue to work on current projects as well as participate in any activities he chooses.”
Wilson is a founding member of The Beach Boys along with his two brothers, Carl and Dennis. The siblings started the group in their California garage in 1961. Their cousin Mike Love also joined the band along with school friend Al Jardine.
The Beach Boys were known for their vocal harmonies and became one of the most influential acts of their time, taking inspiration from older pop vocal groups, 1950s rock and roll, and R&B to create a unique sound.

Their first national hit “Surfin’ U.S.A.” became a top 10 single and set the stage for many more subsequent successes. The band is one of the most commercially successful groups of all time, with more than 100 million records sold worldwide. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
