The 12 Most Useless College Majors

According to experts, the 12 most ineffective college majors are based politics

It can add up to a mountain of debt.

Americans are questioning the idea that all children should attend college. While it’s still the right path for many, higher education is also failing many students, leaving them in piles of debt but with degrees that are pretty impractical.

Here are the 12 most useless degreesAccording to Business Insider.

  1. Acting
  2. Film
  3. Anthropology
  4. Civilization Studies
  5. Philosophy
  6. Psychology
  7. Communications
  8. English
  9. History
  10. Interior Design
  11. Marketing
  12. Photography

Why are these majors so ineffective? Well, Business Insider The list was compiled by asking experts about starting salaries and job prospects. You don’t need many degrees to get into the target industry. Or, you will need multiple advanced degrees.

Now, this doesn’t mean there’s no intellectual or moral merit to any of these fields of study. But it does mean that you shouldn’t drown yourself in subsidized government debt just to pursue one of these majors knowing the limited prospects that await you. If you really want to study English, great, but maybe don’t rack up $200,000 in loans to do so. Start at a community college, or a state school that is affordable.

Otherwise, you’ll end up like the 44% of college graduates According to a ZipRecruiter survey, 59% of respondents regretted their decision in major. Surprise surprise: English, marketing, communications and other majors were the most popular. Insider List are also some of the most regrettable majors after-the fact.

There’s also a public policy dimension to this conversation.

As I will explain in a new video New York Post Column, President Biden’s latest plan for student debt “relief,” The debt-transfer system to taxpayers, also known as debt-transfer, subsidises the lowest productive degrees the most. It subsidises the most in-demand, productive degrees, like engineering and computer science, the least. That makes zero sense.

Alternative pathways to higher education like apprenticeships and training programs are important. Also, we need to ensure that students who go to college do so in a way that is aligned with the market. If we don’t, many more Americans will be left with unutilized degrees and mountains of debt.
