Texas GOP censures Rep. Tony Gonzales for ‘lack of fidelity’ to Republican Party

THe Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales was censured by the Republican Party on Saturday, for “his” behavior.lack of fidelity “to Republican principles and priorities” after the congressman resisted the GOP’s key points including guns and immigration.

State Republican Executive Committee passed rare censure resolution with a vote 57-5. One member abstained. This is only the second Texas vote. Republican Party censured its party member, the first being Joe Straus (then-state House Speaker) in 2018. according to The Texas Tribune.

Gonzales’s censure The state Republican party has the right to vote against him in the next primary. Except as stated, the party must be neutral in intraparty race.

Texas Congressman Gonzales was not present at the vote due to his participation in a congressional delegation visit near Mexico’s border in Eagle Pass, Uvalde and Uvalde.
