Texas Democrat backs Trump’s $5,000 dividend but rejects conditional payout

Gina Hinojosa,a Democratic candidate for Texas governor, announced her support for president Donald Trump’s proposal to distribute $5,000 dividends to U.S. adults, conditioned on it being decoupled from the 2026 midterm elections. She emphasized that current spending often benefits corruption and expressed that the funds should be returned to the people, advocating for policies that empower ordinary Americans rather than those in power.

Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa announced she supports President Donald Trump’s idea for a $5,000 dividend to U.S. adults but only if it is decoupled from the 2026 midterm outcome, as he conditioned.

“Right now, Americans are paying into a system that’s spending, at least, billions on grift, and it’s time for that money to go back into people’s pockets,” Hinojosa said in a statement. “I support Trump’s idea to send $5,000 checks to Texans, but it can’t be about who’s in power – it has to be about giving the people their power back.”
