Tennessee officials have promised to fight the Biden administration’s lawsuit against the state over its law banning transgender hormone treatments and surgeries for minors. The state’s Attorney General, Jonathan Skrmetti, said that they would “vigorously” defend the law, while Republican Governor Bill Lee called the suit an example of federal overreach. Majority Leader William Lamberth also pledged to fight back against what he called a “cruel ideology” that harms children. The law, signed by Governor Lee in March, will bar doctors from giving patients under the age of 18 puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and transgender surgery. Senator Marsha Blackburn also condemned the lawsuit, calling it a “gross federal overreach”.
