Tehran billboard shows a dead Trump and references to destroyed school

Iran has escalated its propaganda efforts against the United States amid increased tensions following the collapse of the Iran-U.S. deal. A billboard in Tehran depicted a dead President Donald Trump in a coffin with threats of revenge, including phrases like “We will kill Trump.” This imagery coincided with a propaganda campaign that includes other billboards, some designed by artists affiliated with the Iranian military, that threaten violence against Trump and reference recent events, such as the death of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the anniversary of a school bombing that killed over 100 children, which U.S. officials believe was a mistake.

Iran’s propaganda also uses digital art and plays with language in English, notably a billboard questioning “who is D nexT one?” and referencing Senator Lindsey Graham, suggesting a threat toward Trump using initials and wordplay. The campaign often ties recent incidents, historical grievances, and conspiracy theories-including links to Jeffrey Epstein-to bolster its narratives. The overall tone of the propaganda underscores Iran’s intent to threaten and intimidate, especially in the context of ongoing conflicts and US-Iran tensions.

A Tehran billboard displayed an image of a dead President Donald Trump as Iran ramps up its death threats against the American president, after the collapse of the deal and ceasefire between the two countries.

Trump has faced repeated death threats from Iran since the United States assassinated former Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani in 2020, but the threats have escalated drastically since he launched the ongoing war with Iran. Mourners began renewed threats against Trump during the funeral of former Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei, and officials have repeatedly invoked pledges of revenge against the president. These threats got a new visual boost when Tehran debuted a propaganda billboard showing Trump’s corpse lying in a coffin.

The poster had phrases pledging revenge written on the coffin, including, “We will kill Trump.”

Among the graffiti was a reference to the Minab elementary school, saying, “In memory of Minab’s children.”

The school was struck by multiple munitions believed to be U.S. Tomahawk missiles in the first hours of Operation Epic Fury, killing over 100 young school children. U.S. officials have said the incident is under review, but preliminary reports indicate the strike was a mistake based on outdated targeting data. The school used to be part of an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps base, but was walled off from the compound several years ago.

The explicit threat to kill Trump, displayed in disturbing visual detail, is all the more notable as it comes from a state-adjacent propaganda campaign. The propaganda billboards displayed in Tehran’s Revolution Square are operated by Tehran Municipality’s Beautification Organization in coordination with the Islamic Propagation Organization, according to Jerusalem News Syndicate. Many of the billboards are designed by artists with the Owj Arts and Media Organization, a group affiliated with the Guard.

Iran has spearheaded the use of digital art for its propaganda, especially since the beginning of the war. Past propaganda billboards have focused on the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, depictions of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei leading Iranian troops, and retaliatory missile barrages.

The new focus on killing Trump was exemplified on Thursday, with another billboard using a pun in English to threaten the president while referencing the recent death of former Sen. Lindsey Graham.

“who is D nexT one?” the billboard read, with only Trump’s initials capitalized. Under the text read “#lindseygraham.”

The Minab schoolgirls have also played a prominent role in Iranian propaganda, often couched in conspiratorial language or attempting to tap into U.S. domestic concerns. A recurring theme in Iranian propaganda of all types is a focus on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, including claims that Trump started the war to distract from the Epstein files or linking the Minab schoolgirls to Epstein’s victims.

A March 17 billboard showed an arsenal of Iranian missiles with inscriptions written on them, a long-running practice in modern warfare. Among the inscriptions was “To the girls of Minab” in Farsi, then directly below it, “Epstein Island Victim Girls [sic],” in English.
