Ted Cruz Torches The Washington Post’s Fact-Checker Over New Chinese Lab Leak Report

On Sunday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R. Texas) made fun of Glenn Kessler, Washington Post fact-checker, for releasing a U.S. Intelligence report showing that one federal agency believes the coronavirus outbreak originated from a Chinese lab accident.

The U.S. Energy Department Conclusion According to The Wall Street Journal, the source of the pandemic’s origin was likely a laboratory leak in Wuhan (China), The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday. The FBI believes the pandemic also originated from a Chinese laboratory leak.

This conclusion was based on newly discovered intelligence “and is significant because the agency has considerable scientific expertise and oversees a network of U.S. national laboratories, some of which conduct advanced biological research,” The report was updated.

Cruz responded to Kessler’s tweet in May 2020. He claimed it was “doubtful” The pandemic was caused by a laboratory leak.

“‘Amazing’ is definitely right word for this video. WaPo ‘abandoning all pretenses of journalism to produce CCP propaganda’ would be another way to put it,” Cruz replied. “If this reporter submitted this video in a freshman logic class, it wouldn’t receive a passing grade.”

Cruz posted a long thread in which he explained everything he knew at the time.

“I fear @tedcruz missed the scientific animation in the video that shows how it is virtually impossible for this virus jump from the lab,” Kessler replied at the time. “Or the many interviews with actual scientists. We deal in facts, and viewers can judge for themselves.”

Cruz replied to Sunday’s tweet with a screenshot from The Wall Street Journal, which included the title. “Lab Leak Most Likely Origin of Covid-19 Pandemic, U.S. Agency Now Says.”

Steve Guest, Special Advisor in Communications for Cruz, also hit Kessler over the report online, calling it “Kessler’s BIGGEST MISS ever.”
