During one ‌of her concerts in ⁢Los Angeles last year, Taylor Swift’s fans caused a small earthquake, as revealed by seismologists. A study conducted by UCLA and Caltech focused ⁢on the shaking of the ground due to ‌the energetic jumping and dancing of the singer’s fans at SoFi Stadium.

The research indicated that on August ​5, during Swift’s concert with around 70,000 attendees, the ground ‍experienced noticeable seismic activity. Seismologist Gabrielle‌ Tepp mentioned that monitoring stations within 5.6 miles of the stadium observed the ground movement during each song of the 3⁣ ½ hour-long set.

The highest movement was recorded during Swift’s performance of “Shake It Off,” reaching a peak magnitude of 0.851. Another significant movement occurred during ​her rendition of “Love Story,” showcasing the impact ​of the music on the seismic readings.

Similarly, Swift and her fans triggered seismic activity during a tour stop in Seattle, with ‌fans moving⁣ the needle⁣ to cause a 2.3 magnitude earthquake, as reported by CNN. Seismologist‌ Jackie⁢ Caplan-Auerbach noted the similarities⁤ in the ‍seismic signals from different concert nights.

“For ‌Taylor Swift, I collected about 10 hours of data highlighting how the rhythm of the music influences the ground.‍ The energy from the music, speakers, and beat can resonate and shake the ground,” Caplan-Auerbach shared.
