Swimmer Riley Gaines rebuttals ESPN for Lia Thomas’ Women’s History Month segment

A former national champion college sprinter who criticized ESPN for including transgender swimmer Lia Thomas in its Women’s History Month application referred to the system as” cowardly.”

Swimmer Riley Gaines criticized ESPN, calling the network” spineless” and tweeting the hashtag # BoycottESPN for including the transgender athlete. She was dubbed” one of the most decorated swimmers in program history.”

Gaines remarked,” Lia Thomas has displayed intense selfishness, a serious lack of awareness, and just an absolute disregard for women.”

Thomas’ participation in women’s to swimming, according to Gaines, is indicative of a bigger economic problem. If something” can’t recognize what a woman is ,” they are not being highly aware.

Gaines competed in the NCAA championships in March 2022 against Lia Thomas, a transgender student at the University of Pennsylvania. Till 2019, Thomas, who competed in the men’s department, claimed that she” felt like she was going into the competition with her hands tied behind her again.”

Gaines has been a leader in women’s sports, promoting equitable healing and preventing transgender individuals from competing against biological women at the highest level. At the NCAA championships earlier years, Gaines and the former Penn diver tied for third place. There was indignation all over the country over Thomas’s pool performance.

The trans sportsman, who was born in Texas, competed in men’s swimming up until he started his shift in May 2019. In December 2021, she made her debut in female events.
