Suspect in correspondents’ dinner shooting donated to Kamala Harris
The man accused in the attempted attack at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner-identified as Cole Tomas Allen-reportedly donated $25 to a Democratic Party political action committee supporting Kamala Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign, according to federal records. Authorities say Allen is believed to have targeted members of the Trump governance, including President Donald Trump, who was at the event.
Allen, 31, is described as having an engineering degree from Caltech and later a master’s in computer science, after which he worked as an self-reliant video game developer. Officials said he has no prior criminal record and that additional charges are expected, including allegations involving firearm use and assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon.
The FBI is investigating the incident. Allen allegedly breached a security checkpoint and shot a Secret Service officer before being arrested. He was reportedly armed with a shotgun, handgun, and multiple knives and ran toward the Washington Hilton ballroom. Trump, along with Vice President JD Vance and other officials, were evacuated safely, and the dinner is expected to be rescheduled. Afterward, Trump commented that “assassins target the most impactful people” and urged Americans to resolve differences peacefully.

Allen, 31, graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, according to his LinkedIn profile. He later obtained a master’s degree in computer science before becoming an independent video game developer.
U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro stated that among “many more charges” expected to be filed, the suspect will be charged with two counts of using a firearm nd a second crime of assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon. The suspect has no prior criminal record, according to officials.

Trump was attending the dinner Saturday evening. The president, Vice President JD Vance, and other top-level officials were swiftly evacuated from the Washington, D.C., event and are safe. The dinner will be rescheduled over the next several weeks.

In a press conference following the event, Trump said assassins target “the most impactful people.”
