Coast Guard rescues underway as tourist submarine viewing Titanic goes missing.

A Search is Underway for a Missing Submersible Carrying People to View the Wreckage of the Titanic

According to media reports, a search is currently underway for a missing submersible that offers the unique experience of exploring the wreckage of the Titanic.

The U.S. Coast Guard, as reported by BBC News, has confirmed that the search operation began on Monday off the coast of Newfoundland. The missing vessel is owned by OceanGate Expeditions.

“We are exploring and mobilizing all options to bring the crew back safely,” stated OceanGate Expeditions in a message to BBC News. “Our entire focus is on the crewmembers in the submersible and their families.”

The U.S. Coast Guard in Boston has yet to respond to messages from The Associated Press. However, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has confirmed that a Canadian military aircraft and a Canadian Coast Guard vessel are assisting in the search effort, which is being led by the U.S. Coast Guard.

In 2021, OceanGate Expeditions initiated an annual voyage to document the deterioration of the iconic ocean liner that tragically sank in 1912 after colliding with an iceberg.

The company had planned for the expeditions to include archaeologists, marine biologists, and approximately 40 paid tourists who would take turns operating sonar equipment and performing other tasks in the five-person submersible.

The initial group of tourists funded the expedition by individually contributing between $100,000 and $150,000.
