Study: Journalists Among the Most Distrusted Groups in World

A new study found that journalists are amongst the most distrusted group in the world.

According to The Edelman Trust BarometerMore than two-thirds of respondents were concerned that journalists and reporters might be exploited. “purposely trying to mislead people by saying things they know are false or gross exaggerations.”

The highest percentage of journalists among all the groups is shown.

Also, the findings show that this percentage is higher than any of the other groups and one percentage point higher than the government leaders.

This latest finding is eight percentage points higher than the previous year, which shows that people are losing trust in media.

Journalists fare slightly better when the question is phrased differently.

The lowest ranking group was Government leaders at 42%. Journalists came in second at 46%.

Scientists and colleagues were at 75% & 74% respectively, the most trusted groups.

The findings reveal a growing distrust in media.

Only 35% of those surveyed said that media is a unifying force, while 46% stated media divide society.

Over three quarters of respondents expressed concern about fake news weaponization.

Ronald Reagan, President of the United States, praised the centrality of the media to American democracy.

“Since the founding of this nation, freedom of the press has been a fundamental tenet of American life,” Reagan stated this on October 6, 1983.

“There is no more essential ingredient than a free, strong, and independent press to our continued success in what the Founding Fathers called our ‘noble experiment’ in self-government.”

The media has evolved a lot since then and is now an entity that is not different from a Government lobbyist.

Donald Trump has highlighted the problems with media over the years.

“There is great anger in our Country caused in part by inaccurate, and even fraudulent, reporting of the news,” Trump declared.

“The Fake News Media, the true Enemy of the People, must stop the open & obvious hostility & report the news accurately & fairly.”
