Heritage Foundation President Warns of Growing CCP Influence in the US

Robust Action Needed to Confront and Defeat Chinese Threat

Kevin Roberts, president of The Heritage Foundation, is sounding the alarm about the increasing influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in the United States. In an interview with Jan Jekielek on EpochTV’s “American Thought Leaders” program, Roberts discussed the CCP threat facing the US, which was addressed in the nonprofit’s “Winning the New Cold War: A Plan for Countering China” report (pdf).

According to Roberts, the CCP has infiltrated nearly every country in the world, and the US is no exception. The report highlights the US’s dependence on China for critical mineral supply and pharmaceutical products, as well as Beijing’s efforts to influence America.

To counter Chinese influence and protect American interests, the report recommends various measures. Roberts notes that their efforts to raise awareness of the Chinese threat are already paying off, as there is a shift in rhetoric.

The Heritage Foundation advocates stopping all CCP-lobbying dollars in the US, and Roberts thinks it’s outrageous that any American citizen would take money from a CCP-interest. He believes that legislation may be necessary to ban lobbyists in Washington from representing the CCP.

Blocking CCP investment in the American military industry is at the top of the list of recommendations made in the China report. Roberts stresses the need to “reshore” and “friendshore” jobs that are offshore in China, and to reinstate a desire in American businesses not to invest in CCP-owned interests.

The CCP’s takeover of American education is also a danger, and Roberts warns against allowing the CCP to infiltrate major research universities.

Protecting American Interests from CCP Influence

To protect American interests from CCP influence, The Heritage Foundation recommends the following measures:

• Stopping all CCP-lobbying dollars in the US
• Banning lobbyists in Washington from representing the CCP
• Blocking CCP investment in the American military industry
• Reshoring and friendshoring jobs that are offshore in China
• Reinstilling a desire in American businesses not to invest in CCP-owned interests
• Preventing the CCP from infiltrating major research universities

Roberts believes that these measures are necessary to confront and defeat the CCP threat facing the US. He hopes that the US will replace the CCP-friendly president with someone who understands the danger posed by the CCP and is willing to take action to protect American interests.
