Stimulus update: Direct payment worth up to $400 to be paid to Massachusetts residents in 12 days

Recipients of a food and utility subsidy program in Chelsea, Massachusetts, are poised to receive their next payment worth up to $400 within 12 days.

A total of 738 selected households will obtain payments ranging from $200 to $400 on April 15 to subsidize food and utility bill payments. The funds will be loaded onto debit cards that recipients were issued in early March, as per a spokesperson from the Chelsea city, who revealed it to the Washington Examiner.

The amount received by each household will be based on the number of individuals living there. A sum of $200 will be paid to households with a single resident, $300 to those with two residents, and $400 to those with three or more residents.

The selection process involved a lottery system that gave preferential treatment to economically-challenged families featuring children under 18, the disabled, veterans, seniors over 65, households who do not qualify for other federal assistance, families with a female head of household, and those with a member who has a marginalized gender orientation, according to the program’s website.

Eligible families had to have a household income that is 30% less than the area median and reside in Chelsea. Households with a single occupant had to earn less than $29,450, while those with two occupants needed to earn less than $33,650 to participate in the program. The payment increased with each additional household member.

The first payment was disbursed on March 15, and the final payment is set to be issued on May 15. The Chelsea spokesperson informed the Washington Examiner that the program would cease after the final payment.
